Codeplay announced the release of VectorC{PC} 2.1 C/C++ compiler today. Now C++ PC developers can write Intel Pentium 4 Prescott-optimized applications that take full advantage of the new features of SSE3. VectorC lets developers write portable, optimized applications for a wide variety of machines with specific optimizations for each architecture.
"SSE3 enables vectorization of a wider range of applications, so even more developers can use SIMD instructions to improve performance" said Andrew Richards, Codeplay founder.
Codeplay now provide a free time-limited trial version that can be downloaded direct from the Codeplay web site, letting developers try it out on their own code.
VectorC is already being used by hit game developers in Europe, USA and Japan. Game developers like Empire Interactive and Hothouse Creations are turning to VectorC to boost performance while cutting down on development time. VectorC has also been used by researchers to produce new visualization technologies.
