Codeplay compiler technology at heart of revolutionary physics engine
18th May 2005
Codeplay Software Limited today announced that its compiler technology has been chosen by AGEIA™ Technologies, Inc., the pioneer in hardware-accelerated physics for games, to power its revolutionary Physics Processing Unit, the PhysX™ chip.

"We have developed an outstandingly powerful hardware physics engine," said Andy Keane, Vice President of Marketing at AGEIA. "In order for developers to fully embrace the technology, we wanted the best compiler technology available. We found that in the widely used Codeplay VectorC."

"One of our strengths is the ability to rapidly produce quality compilers," Andrew Richards, MD of Codeplay explained: "When AGEIA approached us it quickly became clear that we would have only a few months to design, develop and test the product before developers would use it. We were confident we could meet that deadline."

The project started mid-February 2005, and the first prototypes were shipped within 8 weeks.

Andy Keane was delighted with the progress of the project, saying: "Codeplay delivered on their promise allowing us to continue to give game developers the tools they need to bring pervasive, interactive reality to gamers everywhere."
