Codeplay Software wins SPUR Award for work on compilers for multi-core processing
December 2006
Codeplay has received a SPUR award to continue its work on development of compiler technology for use with multi-core processors.

The SPUR project will build on knowledge gained from an earlier (July 2005) SMART Award. The earlier SMART project resulted in patented technology for Codeplay, elements of which will be further developed in the SPUR project.

The goal of the SPUR project is to be able to write a description of a processor in a unified way and be able to generate a full C++ compiler, a small run-time compiler and an auto-parallelising combined compiler/runtime. This will let processor designers specify an architecture and compile C++ code for it on a standard PC and also produce portable virtual machines with dynamic compilation.

The project is expected to occupy nine staff for eighteen months.

About Codeplay

Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Codeplay has been working in the field of optimising compilers since 1999 and is focused on provision of advanced compiler technology for the next generation of highly parallel processors. Codeplay also provides bespoke compiler technology for processor designers and provides services to optimize existing C/C++ applications for use on SIMD or multi-core processors.
