Codeplay releases VectorC {PC} 1.2

LONDON, UK - 28th Steptember, 2001 - Codeplay, provider of high performance game development tools, releases version 1.2 of the Win32 version of their flagship VectorC compiler. VectorC allows games to be faster and with more features than previously possible.

Codeplay's goal is to provide the highest performance compiler without sacrificing development time, code maintainability and portability. VectorC 1.2 enhances the already impressive performance that v1.1 could extract from standard C code. The 1.2 update also provides a compiler control system within the Microsoft Visual Studio environment that allows each part of a project to be tuned independently within an easy to use intuitive GUI.

VectorC exploits the ability of the latest microprocessors to perform multiple operations in parallel. The new SIMD (single instruction, multiple data) instructions enable a large boost in processing power, however taking advantage of them (vectorizing) is a time consuming process which has so far required the deployment of complex assembly language programming.

Codeplay's Managing Director Andrew Richards said, "With VectorC, those SIMD-optimized performance hotspots are still in C, maybe with a 'hint' that just explains more about the code. This means they're portable onto other platforms, straightforward to understand and can be maintained painlessly. They also didn't take your lead programmers a fortnight each to hand code!"

VectorC is available now on the PC platform, it integrates with Microsoft's Visual Studio environment and supports the latest processor features such as SSE/SSE2 on the Intel® Pentium® 4 and 3DNow!™ on the AMD Athlon™.
