The Next Step
Codeplay can get involved at an early stage of processor development
to make sure that processor design is suited to C/C++ compilation.
We then ask some questions to find out what is required from a compiler
for your architecture. Then, we specify the requirements of a compiler
and produce timescales, a development plan and costs.
The usual questions are:
- What is the architecture to be used fore?
- How do you expect software developers to write sofware for the
system?
- Is it single or multi-core?
- Are the cores the same or different?
- What are the memory spaces in the system and how are they addressed?
- How long are the pipelines and instruction latencies?
- What special instructions are there? e.g. SIMD, vector manipulation,
trancendental functions etc?
- What C/C++/shading language features would software developers
make use of?
