Working in Edinburgh
Edinburgh
is a great place to live; a small, lively, cultured city with plenty of
history. It has the world's best New Year's party, excellent
public transport and cycle routes, is a tourist magnet and has the
largest arts festival in the world every August. it's also near the
Highlands of Scotland, with excellent travel connections to the rest of
the UK.
The
City
Edinburgh
is the capital of Scotland, which is part of the UK. It is a relatively
small city of 450,000 people, but with a lot going on. Edinburgh is
within commuting distance of Glasgow and Dundee. It has an
international airport, with regular flights to the rest of the world.
Edinburgh Castle
Night
Life
The
famous pubs of Leith were immortalized in the film Trainspotting, but
are now very civilized (mostly). There are plenty of pubs and clubs in
the city and you are within easy reach of the nightlife in Glasgow.
The
Festival
The
Edinburgh Festival is really several festivals at the same time. See
http://www.edinburghfestivals.co.uk. It happens every year
throughout August. There is a TV, film, International, Book, Fringe and
Jazz Festival. The Fringe Festival is the largest, with hundreds of
shows of various different types and standards, from very amateur to
very professional.
